NJ Youth Soccer (NJYS) - Program Manager

NJ Youth Soccer (NJYS) is seeking a Program Manager. NJYS a member of the US Soccer Federation as a National State Association and is affiliated with US Youth Soccer. NJYS serves as the primary advocate for youth soccer in the state of New Jersey. NJYS is dedicated to offering the highest quality soccer education, player development, and programs while fostering sportsmanship, fitness, diversity, teamwork, and passion for the game. Established in 1976, NJYS proudly serves a membership of 350  affiliate clubs and leagues typically registering 100,000 players and thousands of coaches, administrators, and volunteers. The NJYS office is located at 3 Paragon Way Suite 200 Freehold, NJ.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Programs Manager oversees the roll out and implementation of various grant programs funded by US Soccer from 2023 through 2026. The following are the funded programs of the Innovate to Grow Grants.

  1. Community Outreach Grant: Outreach to unaffiliated organizations and market the NJYS offering to new populations.
  2. “Let’s Play!” After School Student Soccer Grant Program: Initiative designed to transform the lives of participants by providing a safe, character building, community supported program that helps to teach social and emotional skills while fighting obesity and related illnesses.
  3. Recreation Referee Grant Program: program that introduces officiating at the recreation level for players ages 12 and 13, which is pre-grassroots referee certification eligibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach Grant Program

  • Outreach to unaffiliated organizations and market the NJYS offering to new populations
  • Liaise with the NJYS staff to identify, cultivate, and communicate with potential new members
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the youth sports community and a variety of youth sport organizations
  • Assist with market research and reporting
  • Identify grant opportunities that will generate ongoing funding

“Let’s Play” After School Student Soccer Grant Program

  • Pitch program, solicit and select hosts, and manage all aspects of program implementation.
  • Create a pool of qualified trainers/instructors for applicable programs and create training materials.
  • Manage the Let’s Play sessions (track the clinics/attendance, coordinate with instructors, club leaders, and continue making tweaks with the training materials).
  • Establish contact with programs and clubs (making phone calls, emailing, meeting in person).
  • Keep organized supplies, and handouts (e.g., shirts, watches, whistles, flags).

Recreation Referee Grant Program

  •  Manage all aspects of program implementation.
  • Establish an application process for interested programs.
  • Create a tool-kit for turnkey program operations and provide administrative support.
  • Develop a process to evaluate program success.
  • Create training and educational materials.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required; Preferred; Sports Management Major, Fluent in Spanish and CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Three or more years of soccer coaching experience
  • Strong administrative skills to include: well-organized, detail oriented with strong ability to meet deadlines 
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office and Google Applications
  • Ability to manage financial budgets and complete grant reporting requirements
  • Experience with urban education, health education, youth sports development
  • Strong customer service skill set
  • Experience working with children (2 years of previous experience working with elementary school aged children in a sports setting preferred).
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills in multiple settings.
  • Competent in leading (25-40) students, ages 6-11, through sport and life teaching moments.
  • Creativity, problem solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills are vital
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Other duties as assigned

UPON HIRING:

  • Criminal Background Completion (NJYS will cover the cost).
  • Complete the following training courses with 30 days of hiring to meet NJYS Mandatory compliance:
    • SafeSport Trained Core Course.
    • Heads Up to Youth Sports: Concussion Awareness.
    • US Soccer Introduction to Safe & Healthy Playing Environments.
    • US Soccer Grassroots Pathway (if no previous licensing exists)

Compensation:

This is a full-time exempt role that includes responsibilities on evenings and weekends. The position reports to the NJYS Executive Director. Compensation is commensurate with experience. The anticipate salary range is $45,000 to $65,000.
